Camp Scholarships Awarded to Underprivileged Youth

Investing in the next generation is critical to Code 3 Association’s goal of strengthening and uniting the communities we serve. This summer, we partnered with God’s Place Summer Camp (GPSC), sponsored by Greater Love Church in Washington, DC, to provide 12 camp scholarships for children ages 4 – 12 from single-parent homes. GPSC is a three-week program that exposes local children and youth to recreational and team-building activities as well as leadership and empowerment sessions. The camp is known for building character, confidence, and discipline among its participants.

Code 3 Association’s very own DC Area Coordinator, DetectiveKevin Copeland, not only helped coordinate this effort, but also shared his experiences as a Metropolitan Police Department officer with participating campers. To underscore the important role police play in the community, Det. Copeland even held a mock trial where campers assumed the role of police officers in an effort to better understand the challenges law enforcement encounters on a daily basis.

GPSC Founder Scott Bonner praised Code 3 Association for sharing its mission of equipping youth to have “productive roles in the communities of our city.” As we continue to invest in the future leaders of our city, we also remain committed to our mission of strengthening the bond between police and the communities they serve.
