Students Enhance Police Relations at Camp Hope

Students from Hutchison Elementary School in Herndon, Virginia had the unique opportunity to participate in Camp Hope, a two-week long summer camp sponsored by Code 3 Association in partnership with the Fairfax County Police Department. From July 11th-29th, students were involved in the camp’s educational and recreational activities encouraged positive interactions between youth in low-income communities and local law enforcement. One such activity involved a competitive game of dodgeball between police and the campers followed by a pizza party. Since play is the language of childhood, Camp Hope was a natural setting for youth and police to develop relationships. It is our hope that the relationships formed at Camp Hope will help the next generation understand the critical role of police as everyday heroes who help, protect, and serve the communities where they live. The campers enjoyed this experience so much that they cried when camp was over!
