20 Jul Support for Fallen Officers
The deadly string of violence against law enforcement officers in recent weeks has impacted every police department in the nation. In the wake of the deadly attacks on police both in Dallas, Texas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, many are feeling hopeless and powerless to affect change. As we grieve the loss of the brave officers who were killed and injured in the line of duty, we also recognize that our charge to care for cops and the communities they serve is key to ending these tragic events.
To that end, Code 3 Association is hard at work behind the scenes, responding to the needs of the fallen police officers’ families. In partnership with the Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S), Code 3 Association provided a contribution to help cover the cost of the funeral for fallen Dallas Area Rapid Transit Police Officer Brent Thompson on Wednesday, July 13. Officer Thompson was one of five police officers killed during the July 7 protests in Dallas. We are also in the process of determining how to best assist the families of the three police officers killed in the ambush attack in Baton Rouge on July 17.
We are forever grateful for the service of the eight police officers who gave their lives protecting both the Dallas and Baton Rouge communities: Officers Brad Garafola, Brent Thompson, Lorne Ahrens, Matthew Gerald, Michael Krol, Michael Smith, Montrell Jackson and Patrick Zamarripa. Although they are gone, their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
Amid continued mourning this week, we remain optimistic that change is achievable, and we honor the contributions of these and many other police officers around the country who are deeply committed to the welfare and safety of the communities they serve.
